Lakadong Turmeric

Turmeric is a Wonder Spice. Well renowned for its medicinal properties it makes a very important part of any Indian cuisine.  There are about 130 varieties of Turmeric but there is a reason that The Lakadong Turmeric is called the best. This Power Packed variety of Turmeric grows only in a tiny Lakadong village and its surrounding areas of Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya, in Northeastern India – That’s why it is called Lakadong Turmeric.

Curcumin is the compound that gives Turmeric it’s medicinal properties. Average Turmeric varieties have 3% or less of Curcumin content while Lakadong Turmeric boasts of an average curcumin content of 7.5%. With Lakadong you get more curcumin per gram. But then you first must recognize it is Lakadong turmeric. This Turmeric has Light Brown color which can only come from its high curcumin content.

At HOSH we have a group of famers in Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya cultivating Lakadong Turmeric. They use natural methods of cultivation from sowing to harvesting to ensure there are no harmful residue in their produce. We source our Lakadong Turmeric directly from these farmers to ensure authenticity and fair trade.
