Description
Meghalayan Pink Rice
From the Home of Clouds (Meghalaya) comes this beautiful pink hued rice. Rich in nutritional and cultural values it’s said to be the ancestor of the white rice. Pink rice is an indigenous crop cultivated by small-scale women farmers in the Indian Himalayas. It is an integral part of local culture for the Bhoi, Garo, Jaintia and Khasi tribes who use the rice for traditional celebrations and ceremonies. Pink rice is cultivated by tribal families through traditional farming systems and permaculture, without the use of chemical fertilizers. It is a result of the soil, the seed and the magic of Mother Nature, a package that allows the rice to grow upto two meters tall.
